Scott SWCD Welcomes Two New Staff Members

Two new employees recently joined the Scott Soil and Water Conservation District in Jordan. Todd Kavitz has been hired as Engineering Technician and Alyssa Alness as Resource Conservation Technician. Kavitz will be a key point person, along with Willie Peters, for surveys, designs, construction projects, and cost-share funding; Alyssa will be involved in implementing conservation programs and activities with landowners. Both began working at the District in January. Alyssa Alness and Todd Kavitz

Prior to his work at the District, Todd Kavitz worked in both the private and public sectors as an engineering project manager. His experience is primarily in stormwater management, pollution prevention, best management practices (BMPs), surveying, and construction management.  Todd earned his Civil Technology Degree in civil engineering/surveying from South Central Technical College in Mankato. He has a diverse background in the conservation field, and looks forward to meeting landowners and ag producers. He enjoys the opportunity to share ideas on natural resource conservation and stewardship.

Todd and his wife Camille live on a farm north of Medford with their four children, Cole, 19, Dallas, 17, Cassidy, 14, and Cael, 12. Camping with family and friends, working on the farm, attending school events, and trips to Wyoming and Montana are among his favorite free-time hobbies and interests.

Alyssa Alness will be part of the District’s technical team, one of the contacts for SWCD programs related to native prairie and wetland restoration efforts. She will also be out in the field conducting site investigations, working on surveys and designs, providing construction assistance, and monitoring of rural and urban BMP projects. She will also perform construction erosion and sediment control inspections and administration of the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act.

Alyssa is originally from the Rochester area, and is a graduate of University of Minnesota-Duluth. After graduation, she volunteered with the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Duluth and worked for the Benton County Soil and Water Conservation District. Alyssa enjoys hunting, visits to the Boundary Waters, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors with her family and friends.

Todd and Alyssa can be reached at the Scott SWCD office in Jordan, (952) 492-5425, or via e-mail to tkavitz@co.scott.mn.us or aalness@co.scott.mn.us.
