Child Care Assistance Program

Paying for child care can be difficult as you look for a job, go to work or go to school to prepare for work.

Scott County administers the State Child Care Assistance Programs (CCAP) according to Federal and State policy. There are three child care assistance programs.

MFIP Child Care
is for families who receive assistance from the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Diversionary Work Program (DWP).

Transition Year Child Care
is available to families for up to a full year after their MFIP or DWP case closes. If there is a waiting list for the Basic Sliding Fee Child Care Program, you may get help from this program for more than a year.

Basic Sliding Fee Child Care
is for other families with low incomes. Counties have a limited amount of money to spend on BSF Child Care. If there are no openings, you may be placed on a waiting list. You will be contacted when your name reaches the top of the list.

There are income limits for all three CCAP programs. Each program has specific policy on the activities that the parent can be involved in for CCAP to cover child care costs. The CCAP may not cover all of your child care costs; you may be assessed a co-payment based on your income. The amount you may be responsible to pay depends on your family’s income, the number of people in your family and how much your child care provider charges. There is no limit on how long you may receive child care assistance, as long as your income is within the program limits for your family size.

CCAP can help you with child care costs for all children age 12 and younger, and for children ages 13 and 14 who have special needs.
