A Look Back at 25 Years of
Environmental Health - Intro
Back in 1978, Scott County found itself facing several environmental challenges. A local hazardous waste collection and incineration business had recently suffered a large fire, and the site now presented a huge cleanup nightmare. Septic systems were failing and groundwater was beginning to be impacted – the very same groundwater that each and every resident of Scott County depended upon for our drinking water. It was time for a change, and the County Board responded by creating the Environmental Health Department.
In 2003, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of this date, Al Frechette (the Environmental Health Department Manager) wrote a 3-piece article for our county newsletter that offered a look back at the environmental accomplishments that have been achieved in Scott County since 1978.
