So the Holidays have come and gone, and you are now packing away all of your favorite decorations for another year. But before you box up those old well-worn strings of holiday lights, you might want to give some thought to replacing them with newer, more energy-efficient LED lights. And, if you decide to take that step, remember that you can also bring your old tired holiday lights to the Scott County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility for free drop-off and recycling during the month of January!
The Scott County HHW Program, in partnership with the Recycling Association of Minnesota, is collecting used holiday lights for recycling. Both working and non-working holiday lights are accepted, along with old electrical and phone cords. The RAM Holiday Lights Program employs over 200 Minnesotans with developmental disabilities to process and recycle used holiday lights. And by recycling these items, RAM will also divert tons of waste from landfills across our state. This wonderful program will be available at our HHW Facility from January 7 through February 1.
