DXF Format Information
Scott County requires that DXF information created by the surveyors and engineers for the proposed development be submitted to the County (Scott County Land Subdivision Ordinance #7 4-1-1.8 General Information and 5-1-1.3 Information Required for Final Plat All related engineering plans in a digital format (DXF file in County coordinates) compatible with County are required). By following the directions in this document, surveyors and engineers will be able to easily put their plans in a format that will aid the application review process. If the information submitted to the County is not received in the requested format we will return it to the applicant with an explanation of changes needed. This may hold up the plat approval. Please make sure that your surveyor or engineer receives a copy of this information.
1. The information must be submitted in Scott County Coordinate System.
Contact the County Surveyor (Jim Hentges) by email jhentges@co.scott.mn.us or by phone at (952) 496-8362, and identify which township, range, and section the project is in, to get coordinate data. Use the coordinate data to rotate and convert the drawing files into County Coordinates.
2. The required layers must be named exactly as stated on the back of this information sheet.
We will return the DXF information immediately without review if the exact naming convention on the back of this sheet is not used. This may hold up plat approval.
For additional layers not mentioned on this sheet that are pertinent to the development please submit a “readme” file that gives layer name and description.
3. Technical Limitations - ARC View cannot successfully read DXF’s with:
• X-Refs – bind drawings before exporting as DXF.
• Blocks – Explode as necessary before exporting as DXF.
• Frozen/Off Layers – Thaw and turn on all required layers before exporting DXF.
• Special characters – Don’t use special characters (i.e. $,_. -). Be sure to review layer names after binding and before exporting DXF.
• Ensure all attachments are linked properly, namely images.
• All polygons and polylines must be snapped and closed. ArcView has the ability to change polylines into polygons. We use this tool to calculate acreages of certain items, such as hydric soils and wetlands.
Please do not send dxf layers that do not pertain to the plat, such as legends, outlines, and north arrow. Please don’t send us dxf layers of cross sections or profiles.
DXFs may need to be submitted for preliminary plat and then again for the final plat. This may be necessary if changes were made for final plat approval.
Miscellaneous:
• Ensure export is successful – readable data in them.
• The end result should be one DXF file with approximately 25 layers of information.
