Community Corrections
Internship Program

Scott County Community Corrections is an agency providing probation and parole services for adult and juvenile offenders in the First Judicial District. Scott County Community Corrections consists of 32 staff members in the field supervision office and 17 staff members at the Scott County Juvenile Alternative Facility located in Jordan, MN.

Internships are available for both pre- and post-graduate students with a Criminal Justice or related degree. Undergraduates must be in the junior or senior year or have graduated. Graduate students may apply at any time during their program.

Interns will begin with a comprehensive orientation of the Community Corrections Agency and the Criminal Justice System as a whole. A competency contract will then be established, which will outline specific goals and objectives to be completed during the internship. Interns will be provided equal exposure to all divisions, but assigned specifically to the unit of their choice: Adult, Juvenile, Juvenile Alternative Facility or Intake/Pre-trial. Scott County Community Corrections will also provide an opportunity to explore special interests pertaining to the Criminal Justice System.

Direct experience with offenders will be provided. Examples of experience which interns receive include: pre-sentence and pre-dispositional investigations, diversion programs, community services, restitution investigations, chemical use assessments, court presentation, parole hearings, collaboration with service providers in the community, offender supervision (including home, school and employment visits), functions of a 24-hour non-secure juvenile detention facility and much more.

Interns will also be provided with an opportunity to receive certifications and special training to help develop their knowledge and build their resume. They may also have an opportunity to attend a professional training.

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but Scott County Community Corrections strongly encourages interested students to submit an application three to four months prior to their planned internship.
