MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Scott County Attorney’s Office is to promote justice and public safety by prosecuting crime, protecting those in need, and representing Scott County in fulfilling its mission statement by delivering quality public services to all citizens in an effective, professional and efficient manner.
HELP FOR CRIME VICTIMS AND WITNESSES*
The Scott County Attorney’s Office provides assistance and support to victims and witnesses who play a vital role in the criminal justice system. The victim/witness program ensures that victims of crime receive written notice of their legal rights and timely notice of court appearances. The Scott County Attorney’s Office strives to keep crime victims fully informed of all important developments in their cases and affords them the opportunity to express their concerns and to have their questions answered. The County Attorney will seek restitution for losses suffered by crime victims. The victim/witness coordinator and victim/witness staff help victims and witnesses understand the trial process and assist victims and witnesses in their trial participation and preparation of victim impact statements for sentencing hearings. The victim/witness program provides victims with information on community resources and referrals to other agencies or organizations, if needed. The Scott County Attorney’s Office also provides notice to victims, witnesses, and police officers of the results of each case. Tera Portinga is the Victim/Witness Coordinator.
