SAFCOM

 

The Scott County Safety Communications Group or SAFCOM is a voluntary unit of the Sheriff’s Office – Division of Emergency Management.

Under the direction and control of the Scott County Emergency Management Director, the SAFCOM member’s primary mission is to provide weather spotting. Other examples of assistance include helping with incidents such as search operations and in the delivery and set-up of the Sheriff’s Office mobile command posts as needed.  

To qualify, you must be at least 18 years of age, in good basic health, able to get along with fellow members, willing to follow the rules established for the SAFCOM group, submit to a background check to verify no criminal conduct, and have a valid driver’s license.

The Scott County Emergency Management Division conducts SAFCOM training and classes that include, but are not limited to, weather spotting procedures, defensive driving, radio procedures training, as well as training in other areas of emergency work as appropriate.

An active member shall be one who volunteers his/her services to Emergency Management activities, including training. To be considered active a member shall make 30 % of all SAFCOM activities in one calendar year. Examples of SAFCOM activities include call outs, training, or working with the command trailers.
