Future Needs Study from CSAH 21 to Glendale Road
As nearby residents and businesses know, Highway 42 is the major east-west travel corridor through this growing part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. Several questions need to be addressed as more development and traffic emerge:
- What level of mobility should be provided by 2030; and what should Highway 42 look like?
- What are the potential costs of improving the highway and what costs and impacts are expected if it is not improved, such as congestion and crashes?
- What impacts to adjacent properties and resources could be expected?
- What other investments could be considered—for example transit improvements or parallel supporting roads, and what impacts could these strategies have?
- How can improvements be implemented or phased; and how can a long-term vision be coordinated with developments or highway projects now being planned or built?
By the end of this planning process, the Highway 42 Plan will provide guidance for planning the future of this important regional roadway—how it should be designed, what areas should be preserved for expansion, and what projects should be implemented in the future.
The next open house is currently anticipated for late 2007. At that time, the final study recommendations will be presented for public comment prior to adoption by the Scott County Board and the Prior Lake and Savage City Councils.
