Major Zoning Ordinance Updates Adopted on January 12th

After a two-month public hearing with the Scott County Planning Commission and a final public hearing at the January 12th County Board meeting, the Scott County Board of Commissioners adopted the latest amendments to the Scott County Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map. This is a major step towards implementation of the goals and policies of the 2030 Comp Plan. Go to the Ordinance Updates page to view the adopted version of the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map.

Entire DAP Study Now On-Line

The Detailed Area Plan (DAP) study, which determines the impacts of a build-out of rural residential development in the eastern townships, is nearing completion. The entire study is now available for review. To view the entire document and its recommended strategies, go to the DAP Study Page.

COUNTY BOARD ADOPTS 2030 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE

On March 24th, 2009, the Scott County Board of Commissioners officially adopted the 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update. The Board voted unanimously to adopt the Plan after hearing comments from the public related to farmland preservation and the Plan’s implementation recommendations. The adoption of this Plan requires a great deal of gratitude to the thousands of participants that dedicated their time and provided input during the four year planning process. The 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update is available on-line under the 2030 Plan Document page.

ABOUT SCOTT COUNTY

Scott County is the fastest-growing county in Minnesota and the 33rd fastest-growing county in the United States. From 2000 to 2008, the County’s population grew by 44.1 percent. In 2008, the County’s estimated population was 128,937.

The Twin Cities metropolitan area (shown in green on the map) is expected to continue growing in the future. Scott County is projected to reach a population of 221,770 residents by 2030. With growth comes a multitude of issues, which local officials must manage in order to maintain the desirability of Scott County communities.
