Inspections 

Inspections within existing occupied homes will be conducted using video conferencing or image submittal as indicated below.

Digital Image Inspection - Interior Occupied Home 

When digital images are accepted in lieu of site inspection the images shall be clear, have the ability to zoom in without distortion, and include visibility of all required items as listed. Note: large file sizes may require multiple emails.

Images will not be accepted without first scheduling the image inspection.

The inspection items listed below are approved for image submittal or video conferencing.

  • Drain Tile
  • Fireplace Final
  • Fireplace Rough-In
  • Footing/Foundation (Interior)
  • Furnace/Unit Heater
  • Gas Line
  • Water Heater 
  • Water Softener
  • Window/Door

Video Conferencing Inspection - Interior Occupied Home

All inspections within occupied homes not listed as image inspections are approved for video conferencing inspection via FaceTime, Skype for Business, and ZOOM.

  • Residential Alteration/Repair
  • Basement Finish

On-site Visual Inspections

Inspection types related to the following construction activity will be in person on project site.

  • New Construction
  • Additions that can be accessed from the exterior
  • Commercial New and Alteration/Repair
  • Unoccupied Residential Buildings
  • Exterior

Scheduling

Scheduling an Image Inspection

  1. Permit holder shall contact Inspections scheduling at 952-496-8160 
  2. The inspection will be scheduled, and the permit holder receive the inspectors email address to forward images.
  3. The Permit number and project address shall be in placed the subject line of the email.
  4. Include images that show all required items visible within the images.

Scheduling a Video Inspection

FaceTime Inspections (iPhone and iPad users only)

  1. Permit holder or on-site contact shall schedule inspection by calling 952-496-8160
  2. Caller shall notify scheduler of FaceTime video conferencing preference and provide contact name, iPhone number, and email address. If no phone number is associated with your iDevice, provide iCloud email address. 
  3. Inspection will be scheduled.
  4. At the scheduled day/time of inspection the inspector will call for video conferencing inspection.  

If you are not already familiar with Scott County video inspections: 

  1. Permit holder or on-site contact shall contact Inspections Scheduling at 952-496-8160
  2. The permit holder will provide contact information including name, permit number, phone number, and email address. Same day phone meeting with inspector will be scheduled for assistance with video conferencing app setup.
  3. Prior to phone meeting, the inspector will send informational handouts.
  4. During the inspector phone meeting the inspector will assist and answer questions related to video conferencing inspections and the inspection will be scheduled.
  5. The on-site contact will receive an email invite to the video conferencing inspection.
  6. At the scheduled day/time of inspection the on-site contact shall join the video inspection meeting per the instructions laid out in the Join Video Conferencing Meeting Handout found here:

If you are familiar with Scott County video inspections:

  1. Permit holder or on-site contact shall schedule inspection by calling 952-496-8160
  2. Caller shall notify scheduler of preferred video conferencing method and provide contact name, phone number, and email address.
  3. Inspection will be scheduled.
  4. At the scheduled day/time of inspection the on-site contact shall join the video inspection meeting

Scheduling On-site Visual Inspections

  1. Permit holder or on-site contact shall schedule inspection by calling 952-496-8160
  2. On-site contact shall answer COVID-19 screening questions and provide contact name, phone number, and email address.
  3. Inspection will be scheduled.
  4. Prior to the inspection, the on-site contact shall prepare the site by opening any doors, cabinets, or enclosures related to the inspection.
  5. Inspector will meet on-site at scheduled date/time of inspection. On-site contact shall again answer COVID-19 screening questions and follow CDC guidelines for mitigating potential risk of spreading the Coronavirus.
  6. In addition, we ask that the amount of people within the area of inspection be limited to those involved in the inspection.
